Universal Driving Tips for Safety

So who has the safest and most enjoyable vacation trips? Certainly, he is the one who anticipates the needs of other fellow drivers and exhibits a little common courtesy and goes with the flow. There are several driving tips that a responsible driver should know and observe to ensure safety on the road. These tips are actually basic and are easy to follow.

Here they are.

Speed. It is a big NO to drive the speed limit if the other motorists are not moving at that speed. You can either slow down or speed up if your preferred speed is 65 mph but the slower (right) lane traffic is moving 62 mph and the faster (left) lane is approaching 70 mph. However, you should not fight or obstruct the flow. It is safer to go with the flow.

Lane Courtesy. It is a sad reality that many American drivers do not understand and appreciate the importance of lane courtesy – slower traffic keep right and faster traffic pass on the left. You should give the other motorists the chance to find an opening in the right lane if you are in the left lane and slower vehicles are in your right lane. Never climb onto their trunk and signal your intentions with 4 or 5 blinks of your left directional. Use your pair of headlights to clarify your intentions. Do not be mad if the motorists to whom you give your signals do not move. Just work your way with these incompetent and inconsiderate drivers the best you can. Remember the recommendation on the speed if the traffic is heavy.

Passing. The ‘cruised control passed is evidenced when a driver traveling with the cruise control set at 65 mph moves to the left and proceeds to take 10 minutes to pass another vehicle going 64.5 mph. Meanwhile, a platoon of vehicles is stacking up in both the right-and-left lane. The ‘cruise control devotee’ is another variation of such practice. This effectively limits a truck driver’s emergency options or prevents him from moving into the right place. Although it is not a requirement to punch the passing gear to overtake another vehicle, you would have to pass promptly and deliberately. Your clear intentions and decisiveness will be surely appreciated.

Anticipation. Drivers significantly have to anticipate the needs of their fellow travels to ensure a faster and safer traffic. One common form of anticipation is to move to the left lane or to open up space for merging traffic. There are in fact a lot common courtesies that cost nothing in time and money but greatly expedite traffic low and reduce aggravation. You can permit a vehicle in the right lane to pass another vehicle that is obstructing traffic by simply adjusting your left lane speed. There is a need for you to match the speed of the traffic flowing in the left lane when moving from the right lane to execute pass in the left lane. Do not practice that blind obedience to speed limits if safety really matters to you.
Sightseeing. One thing you can enjoy with traveling is sightseeing. This is especially true if you are a stranger to the place. You should not however overdo sightseeing and forget about the road you are traveling on. Enjoying the scenes while driving safely shouldn’t be hard. You can occasionally glance in the rearview mirror. If traffic is collecting behind you, simply pull over where there’s room and let them go by. In this way, you can reduce the aggravation factor for everyone. The overall effect? Your fun is enhanced and your trip is safer, faster more enjoyable.
